Happy B'day to Us!

I can’t believe it has already been a year since I started this project called Amadora Designed Concepts.

I never thought that having my own business was something I wanted to do, until as many of you know, I started to feel the need to reconnect with my South American roots after many years as an expat in Australia.

Growing up I saw many women in my family dressing up every single day, working as fashion designers or modelling. I have always been pretty short and sort of ‘nerdy’, so I made other life choices for myself, but it seems that sooner rather than later the love for the beautiful, delicate things in life was bound to be ignited in me. So I decided to share with the world the quality, pride and beauty of South American goods, in particular Colombian goods.

I bet you have mostly heard about our great coffee, Shakira and the movement of her heaps, Sofia Vergara and her good…acting, Botero and his voluptuous sculptures, Garcia Marquez with his Nobel Prize in literature, or the Colombian Soccer team (we’re crazy about the sport). But, did you also know that Colombia exports beautiful fresh, premium quality flowers mainly to the US, Japan, Europe and Australia? Your next Valentine’s day roses may come right from my cousin’s Anita backyard!

These flowers are not only used to show someone you know that you love them, or decorate your home, the petals are carefully picked and used to make gorgeous earrings, bracelets, necklaces and rings. So, you can wear and take with you a piece of our culture anywhere you go.

Colombia’s garment manufacturing industry has long been known for producing high quality, long-lasting and soft clothing with Medellin being the capital of fashion in Colombia. I feel so passionate about Colombian manufacturing for many reasons, particularly the fact that you can get great quality items at fair prices. I like it to getting Italian quality products without the huge price tag.

Once you try Colombian goods, you can’t go back. The softness of the fabrics and leather, the smell (yes, I take a bit of a sniff before I buy anything) and fit of the clothing are amazing. But don’t take my word for it, try it yourself and then tell me what you think.
